

He addressed issues that are quite common in Ghana and many places on the continent. While the overall theme of Dawson finding his mother and Gladys Mensah’s killer held, there were other issues Quartey addressed in his book. The irony of someone who is meant to uphold the law breaking it by indulging in an illegal substance was quite refreshing. And like every man out there, Dawson is engaged in an affair to the dismay of his wife. He’s a son, brother, husband and father of a little boy with a hole in his heart. Oh no, his character is very believable and realistically written. Dawson isn’t some boring hero trope police officer. The protagonist, Darko Dawson, is a policeman on a murder case in a region where his mother went missing and was never found decades ago. It’s all shades of grey as captured in this book. And once you’ve been thoroughly hooked, you begin to appreciate the many layers of the story.
